October 28th -- Lots of Texas

Sorry, no pictures today. Didn't feel like a tourist. I'm sure there's lots of great things to see as you cross Texas, but now that I'm behind schedule, I've decided to just see a couple of things on the way home, and nothing (else) in Texas qualifies. Well, one thing does. On my way from Houston to New Mexico and Arizona, the only stop I planned to make was in Dallas, to have lunch with Jane.

I got to her office in downtown Dallas just after noon. Downtown meant it was kind of hard to park, but I found a parking lot fairly nearby where I could fit, and she came and picked me up. We actually ate in her office building, which is this absolutely enormous building dedicated to incubating high-tech companies. Neat place.

Lunch was fun. It's too bad that we couldn't spend more time together, but she had to go back to work and I had to get on the road. She did convince me that taking US-287 up through Wichita Falls to Amarillo would be much faster than I-35 to Oklahoma City and I-40 to Amarillo, so that's what I did. Sure enough, made Amarillo by 8pm, which is where I'm stopped for the night.

So, not a very eventful day, just a lot of driving. This campsite, though, also has active phone lines at every campsite. Must be a Texas thing.

Tomorrow, I'm going to try to stop for a while in Santa Fe and see it and some of the surrounding countryside before heading for the Grand Canyon.
